What do I need to be qualified?

The right qualifications

Every licensed registered digital installer must undertake and pass a minimum level 2 NVQ or SVQ in electrical and electronic servicing (signal reception pathway) within 12 months of registering in the scheme. The NVQ/SVQ is a vocational training platform which requires you to demonstrate your skills and fill any gaps in your knowledge. It varies with experience but you should be able to complete the course within a few months of starting and because much of the assessment is ’on the job’ NVQ’s have been chosen as a way of minimising down time.

Public liability insurance

We insist that all members of our scheme provide evidence (annually) that they have public liability insurance with a minimum £2m protection for their customers.

Working at Heights

The RDI takes health and safety for its members and the public very seriously. All installers must therefore have completed a working at heights course either as part of the NVQ process or separately.

To be who you say you are

All installers must submit a Criminal Records Disclosure to our agent Disclosures Scotland. We do not accept applicants into the scheme with criminal convictions.
